Levonorgestrel (ZEE-1)

Description

Levonorgestrel (ZEE-1) is a brand that belongs to Emergency contraception (EC), It helps to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure (like a broken condom or missed pills). EC should be used as soon as possible—within 72 hours for levonorgestrel and up to 5 days for ulipristal or the IUD. It does NOT cause abortion.

• Benefits: A single-dose emergency contraceptive pill (one tablet). Easy to take and widely available. Works best within 24 hours but effective up to 72 hours after unprotected sex.
• Contradictions: Not effective if you are already pregnant. Less effective if you weigh over 75 kg you may need a higher dose or an alternative method like a copper IUD. May cause mild side effects like nausea, dizziness, or irregular bleeding.
• Take as soon as possible! Works best within 24 hours but up to 72 hours max. Not an abortion pill—ZEE-1 pills prevent pregnancy before it happens.  Not for regular use—use a more reliable method like condoms, birth control pills, or an IUD for ongoing protection. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours, you may need another dose.
